【Defense Examination】Thesis Similarity Check Regulations

  1. The similarity threshold for the originality check of theses is 20% for students from Mechanical Engineering Department. However, portions of a thesis that cite the student’s own previously published journal articles or conference papers on the same research topic are excluded from this limit.
  2. The available Turnitin filtering options include:
    (1) Exclude bibliography
    (2) Exclude small sources (limit: 10 words or fewer)
  3. When submitting the similarity report, every student must also submit the “Thesis Academic Ethics and Authentication of Originality Statement” to the department office. (The form is available in the Thesis section of the Student Information System.)
  4. If your similarity result (including content from your own publications) exceeds 20%, please provide a handwritten explanation on the form. Refer to the example below for guidance.
